Proactive Drillship Planning and Automated Ticketing with ID3 Lookahead
Client
Drilling contractor operating a fleet of offshore rigs
Challenge
Offshore rigs operations require precise coordination between planning, execution, equipment, maintenance, and logistics. Frequent changes in drilling conditions made it difficult to:
- Maintain a reliable near-term forecast
- Anticipate equipment maintenance and logistics needs
- Monitor Plan vs Actual performance in real time
- Avoid reactive maintenance and operational delays
Disconnected planning and reporting tools limited visibility and increased operational risk.
Solution: ID3 Lookahead
The contractor deployed ID3 Lookahead, embedded in the ID3 Reporting Module, to digitalize well planning and transform it into a continuously updated operational forecast.
Before spud, the initial well plan (activities, durations, depth, costs, equipment, and services) is uploaded into ID3. During operations, rig crews move planned activities directly into the Timelog, recording actual time, depth, and costs.
Each update automatically generates a new forecast of remaining activities and End of Well.
Key Capabilities
- Plan vs Actual vs Forecast monitoring, activity by activity
- Continuous update of End of Well date and cost outlook
- Seamless Timelog filling from Lookahead activities
- Mapping of drilling activities to equipment, services, and resources
- Gantt-based visualization of upcoming operations requiring equipment or services
Proactive Maintenance & Logistics
Thanks to the continuously updated forecast, ID3 automatically:
- Schedules upcoming equipment usage
- Anticipates maintenance and logistics needs
- Creates maintenance jobs and tickets based on forecasted activities
All information is available on the rig and onshore, and can be shared with third-party systems through ID3 APIs.
